By the end of this course you should be able to:
a) Fully understand the main OB concepts and theories presented in the readings
b) Learn how to read academic literature and review papers
c) Practice in writing your own research |
| Summary: |
Organizational behavior is a very broad discipline that focuses on the analysis of human behavior within an organizational context at different levels of analysis (individual, group, organization, industry) and from different perspectives or paradigms (e.g. interpretive, positivistic, critical). The objective of this seminar is to give you an overview of OB research by reading the original scientific papers that are being published in the field and discussing them. In addition, you will learn to read academic literature and start your own OB research. |
| Methodology: |
Our class will run like a seminar. You will have thoroughly read the assigned readings before class and we will discuss them all together. One of you may lead the discussion of one reading. In addition, I will often introduce the overall topic to the class. |
| Assessment: |
Assessment will involve participation in class, writing a research proposal and a final exam.
Participation 30%
Exam 35%
Proposal 35% |
| Incompatibilities: |

| Syllabus: |
OB includes issues such as personality, motivation, cognition and emotions, communication, teams, leadership, organizational identity, work attachments, etc. |
| Bibliography: |
We will read several academic articles and discuss them in class. I will provide these materials. In addition, if you want to have a good overview of the field you can either go to the library and check any undergraduate book on Organizational Behavior (for example, Robbins is a good one), or alternatively you can read the following more elaborated book (also available in the library):
A Primer on organizational behavior / James L. Bowditch, Anthony F. Buono
Bowditch, James L.
Hoboken, N.J. : John Wiley & Sons, 2007 XIII, 458 p. ; 24 cm
The Buono and Bowditch is a good acquisition as well, if you want to keep a reference book on OB for your personal library. However, it is not required. |
